vegetarian
n. A person who does not eat meat or fish. They may however, eat eggs, cheese and other dairy products. Ethical vegetarians often avoid fur or leather.
vegan
n. A strict vegetarian who eats plant products only, especially one who uses no products derived from animals, such as honey, fur or leather.
ahimsa
n. A Buddhist and Hindu doctrine expressing belief in the sacredness of all living creatures and urging the avoidance of harm and violence.
jai·gong slang. Cantonese for the word 'vegetarian' (useful word to know in a chinese restaurant).

A free lecture by author Linda Riebel at Crissy Field Center, 603 Mason street at Halleck in the Presidio, San Francisco.

Eco-friendly food samples prepared by Laura Spec will follow the lecture. About this event: Linda Riebel, co-author of Eating to Save the Earth: Food Choices for a Healthy Planet, will be discussing how a flesh-based diet and use of animal products impact our environment and what personal decisions individuals can make to help our environment.
Linda's book will be available from the book store with time for booksigning. Linda is also a professional psychotherapist, a vegan, and a member of SFVS.
Bring your non-vegetarian friends and family to this informative event in a pleasant atmosphere. Before or afterward, you can enjoy the spectacular Bay view, breathe the fresh negative ion-charged air, take a leisurely walk along the shoreline or a lengthier walk to the base of the Golden Gate Bridge, or all of the above.
