n. A person who does not eat meat or fish. They may however, eat eggs, cheese and other dairy products. Ethical vegetarians often avoid fur or leather.
ve·gan - (vgn, vjn)
n. A strict vegetarian who eats plant products only, especially one who uses no products derived from animals, such as honey, fur or leather.
a·him·sa- (-hms‰)
n. A Buddhist and Hindu doctrine expressing belief in the sacredness of all living creatures and urging the avoidance of harm and violence.
jai·gong slang. Cantonese for the word 'vegetarian' (useful to know in a chinese restaurant).
4th of July Brunch Potluck, Co-hosted with East Bay Veg*ns Monday, July 4: Socializing and Appetizers at 2:00 p.m.; Dining at 3:00 p.m. 633 Glen Wood Isle, Alameda, hosted by Elizabeth Bechtold $1 suggested donation with food, enough for 10 people per person. $10 per person without food. Attire: Western or Patriotic. Due to the closeness of the canal, Elizabeth has requested that no children under 12 come. Directions: See May 30 potluck. After the potluck, there will be entertainment, boating and dancing. Soft soled shoes needed for dancing in the studio. Anyone with musical talent, call Dixie 415-885-2251 eve.
