vegetarian
n. A person who does not eat meat or fish. They may however, eat eggs, cheese and other dairy products. Ethical vegetarians often avoid fur or leather.
vegan
n. A strict vegetarian who eats plant products only, especially one who uses no products derived from animals, such as honey, fur or leather.
ahimsa
n. A Buddhist and Hindu doctrine expressing belief in the sacredness of all living creatures and urging the avoidance of harm and violence.
jai·gong slang. Cantonese for the word 'vegetarian' (useful word to know in a chinese restaurant).
SF Holiday Dinner Saturday, December 10 at 6:00 p.m. Location: IOA. A special vegan dinner will replace our monthly potluck celebrating the holiday season of the Winter Solstice, Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanza. $12 per person; $6 for children. Festive or Dressy attire.
Everyone is welcome; however, reservations are required.

Chef Seth Pasternack of Convergence Catering* will be preparing a tasty Holiday Menu for us which will include Hors d‘oeuvres, Salad, Entrée, Dessert, & Tea. An additional treat will include Organic Field Roast from the makers of Field Roast Brand Vegan Meats.
Our wonderful entertainment will include Bonny Knight playing classical and holiday music on the piano (carolers are welcome to join in) and David Orner singing ballads in six languages including Russian, Italian, German, English, Yiddish, and Hebrew (dancers are welcome to join in the Hava Nagila circle dance). Pam Jacobs will complete the swinging and singing Karioke. Audience participation in our ecumenical celebration is encouraged.
