The San Francisco Tavern Guild Foundation founded the Community Thrift Store, a non-profit, in 1982, in order to help local charitable organizations.
We have over 200 non-profit organizations that we refer to as partners. All partners must be a project of/or registered with the IRS as a 501-C3.
The donors for these 200 plus charities bring sellable items to us to sell for their specific charity. Other donors make a choice from our list of 200 charities at our receiving dock.
Community Thrift Store is staffed by a combination of employees, volunteers and community service workers.
If you are interested in volunteering, please telephone (415) 861-4910.
Our charities provide the following services:
financial assistance, food, shelter and comfort for those living with AIDS, and other life threatening illnesses
counseling and nurturing of children and youth, including sports programs and job training
empowerment of women and minorities
promotion of health and health care
support for the elderly and assistance for recent immigrants
humane programs for animals and pets
support for programs that are working to defeat bigotry and violence
