The San Francisco Veg Society (SFVS) is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization founded in 1968. We promote the adoption of a plant-based diet and lifestyle for healthy, ethical and sustainable living. Based in historically progressive city of San Francisco, we offer a community for people to meet, learn, exchange ideas and information, and interact with others interested in plant-based living for a better world.
Together we can make this movement grow and encourage a lifestyle that is better for your health, better for the well-being of animals, better for the environment and better for humanity.
We couldn't do this without the support of our members, so join us today!
For decades SFVS has been at the forefront of vegetarian living--in fact, our history stretches all the way to the swinging sixties. For some compassionate people, experiencing the "Summer of Love" in San Francisco meant more than just peace and love for their human companions, but extending that kindness to our animal companions that share this beautiful planet with us.
Visit our "History" page to find out more about our enduring history in San Francisco and about our presidents, board members, and all those who help keep this society alive!
The science is in. A vegan diet is one of the most healthy options for optimal health. From curing obesity, to reversing heart disease, following a plant-based diet is one of the smartest (and kindest) things you can do for your health.
Animals are sentient beings who are treated abominably by our current food system. There is a place for all of us on this earth and all play an important part in a healthy ecosystem. Animals should be treated with the respect and compassion they deserve.
The meat and fishing industries have a detrimental impact on our land, air, and water--contributing to climate change, mass extinction, and environmental destruction. By choosing a vegan diet you take direct action against the industries and practices that harm our environment.
Do you know where your food comes from? From the farms, to the slaughter houses to the fishing boats, people are being exploited, abused and sometimes enslaved to bring more meat and fish into your diet. If your spirit cries out for social justice in our world, it's time to go vegan!
